The caption on the slate for this portrait photograph states “Kirkham The Willows 1913”.
Presumably, this is a portrait of children from the Willows School and their teacher, taken in the grounds of the church. Certainly, there is a ‘Narnia’ type of lantern in the background, similar [but with, at least, a different lantern] to that currently existing near the garage of the presbytery.
The date is taken to be 1913, and the slate also has the inscription “W75”, but there is no clue as to what this may refer. It is fascinating to imagine how many of these children are relatives of our current parishioners.
