Willows Opening Poster

The church at The Willows was consecrated on Tuesday 22nd April 1845 and opened the next day, on the Feast of St George, in elaborate ceremonies attended by a great number of Bishops, Priests, and Deacons, as well as a large congregation from Kirkham, The Fylde, and towns as far away as Preston, from which a special train was laid.

Posters were prepared and issued to advertise this great event. The photographic image provided is of such a poster, the original of which is framed and hangs in the sacristy.

Note that a collation [a light meal] was provided in the School Room at a charge, and that, thankfully, ladies were allowed to be admitted !

An original copy and transcript of a newpaper report of the consecration and opening events can be accessed here.
